Brainspotting Phase 5 is David Grand’s newest advanced training with the most up-to-date information on the Neuroexperiential Model (NEM).

Seminar Objectives

In Phase 5 you will learn 6 advanced applications of Brainspotting:

  • Advanced Gazespotting for Existential Trauma

  • Attachment Eye Contact Spot and Dosing

  • Double Pointer with Memory Loss from Head Trauma

  • Advanced Partspotting 1

  • Advanced Partspotting 2

  • Innovative Ways of Finding Relevant Eye Positions (Brainspots).

Learning Objectives

Participants of this intermediate and advanced training will be able to:


Thursday November 13th, 2025 - Day 1

  • Define and identify the principles and applications of the Neuroexperiential Model (NEM).

  • Distinguish between the concepts of the NEM and the Evidence Based Model.

  • Delineate how Brainspotting is a developmental model in contrast with the DSM 5 and ICD 9 diagnosis models.

  • Explain and apply the Frame-based NEM approach of Brainspotting and how it is different from other models.

  • Describe and apply how relevant eye positions can be located through head and neck orientating.

  • Outline the many nervous systems in the body and explain how they are part of the bottom up process of Brainspotting.


Friday November 14th, 2025 - Day 2

  • Define and explain sensory gating and how it contributes to hyperarousal and hypoarousal.

  • Explain how hyperarousal and hypoarousal are intertwined and their implications for Brainspotting processing.

  • Comprehend and explain the limitations of the SUDs scale in assessing hypoarousal and its implications for diagnosis and treatment.

  • Describe how flight/fight/freeze underpins anxiety, anger and dissociation in addition to its application to Brainspotting therapy.

  • Comprehend and apply Advanced Partspotting in order to retrieve parts from flashbacks.

  • Explain and use Brainspotting to treat memory loss resulting from head trauma.


Saturday November 15th, 2025 - Day 3

  • Understand and utilize culture as part of the NEM in understanding clients.

  • Understand and explain how Indigenous healing practices are incorporated into the NEM.

  • Illustrate how and give examples of how the Uncertainty Model promotes the attuned presence of the Brainspotting practitioner.

  • Explain and demonstrate how attachment trauma can be healed by the eye contact spot.

  • Classify and apply the dosing Brainspotting process to be effective with highly dissociative clients.

  • Describe and give examples of how parts can be located through Gazespotting, Outside Window and Inside Window Brainspotting Frame Set Ups.

The student rate is only available to those who are currently enrolled in a masters or doctoral program related to mental health i.e. your degree has not been conferred. Please include the following in your request: 

  1. The name of your school indicate the type of program e.g. MSW, MS in Counseling, Ph.D in psychology etc.

  2. Await a response with instructions on how to proceed.


The pre-independent clinical license rate is only available to those who are working under supervision to become licensed to practice independently i.e. your degree has been conferred. 


Please include the following in your request: 

  1. Indicate your pre-licensure credentials e.g. AMFT, LCSWA, etc. 

  2. Your supervisor's name  - e.g. supervised by Jenny Therapist, LMFT etc.

  3. Await a response with instructions on how to proceed.

The repeat rate is available to those who have previously completed a Brainspotting Phase 5 synchronous (live) online training or in-person training.  Please email bsptrainer@westcoastpsychotherapy.com with the dates of your previous Brainspotting Phase 5 training along with a copy of your completion certificate.

Requirements and Expectations to Attend the Training

  1. If you are unable to adhere to these requirements, please do not register for the training.

  2. 100% attendance is required for each day.  This means it is not acceptable to leave the training for a few hours to go attend another meeting etc, and then return to the training. If you are unable to attend 100% each day then do not register for the training.  In case of an emergency, we are happy to provide a prorated refund of the registration fee less administrative fees and you can take the training in the future.

  3. COVID-19 remains a thing so to speak, along with sociopolitical issues which have caused strain in many areas, to say the least.  However, if you are not able to be fully present for whatever reason(s) please do not register for the training.  This training is highly experiential and REQUIRES your full attention and presence.  The inability to be fully present adversely impacts other attendees during experiential practicums. Opting out of practicums is NOT permitted.

  4. If you become ill during the training and cannot be fully present, we are happy to provide a prorated refund.  Just observing is not permitted.  All aspects of the training must be completed with full participation.

Who is this Course for?

Brainspotting practitioners who have completed Phase 1 with completion of Phase 2 strongly recommended.

Continuing Education Credits

This training is NOT eligible for CEs due to current CE standards and regulations of the APA, NASW, ASWB, NBCC that do no permit CEs for exclusive affinity spaces.  Please note this is NOT a policy of Brainspotting Training, LLC or John R. Edwards, LCSW.

West Coast Psychotherapy has secured group rates at the VOCO hotel in Astoria, Queens, NY.


The hotel is about a 10-minute walk to the venue where the training will occur. Once the group reservation link is ready, it will be sent to all those who register for in-person attendance and indicated that they will stay at the selected hotel.
